The Kupenga Project

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the initial start date for The Kupenga Project (21st March) had been delayed. We are now pleased to announce that the programme will resume with it's first session on the 29th August, 2020.

'Kupenga', the Maori word for 'fishing net', signifies an important aspect of Maori culture: traditional fishing was both a practical and a spiritual activity. As such, the programme is aimed at inspiring young people to launch out into the deep, develop networks, connect with others, and to strive be ambitious in all aspects of their lives - both personal and professional.

> WHAT IS IT?

THE KUPENGA PROJECT brings together senior high school students and university students who are emerging leaders, but still finding their way through their formative years. It brings them face to face with successful professionals who are trying to build a better world.

There are so many unknowns, and so many pathways to take - the decisions you make now will set you on a course that will shape you as a person.

The Kupenga Project will help you to discern your own talents and discover where they might be best applied. It will drive you to develop the virtues needed for professional life and broaden your horizons to see how you can employ your skills to help others.

The programme has the following four aspects:

1. INSPIRATION: Hear from some of New Zealand’s top performing professionals

2. CHARACTER: Make a personal development plan to realise your true potential

3. CONNECTION: Network with professional mentors and university students

4. SERVICE: Develop a genuine passion for helping others

The programme culminates with a choice of volunteer opportunities, including a high school summer camp, or a three-week service project in the Pacific Islands at the end of the year. DUE TO COVID19, we are organising a local service project in NZ; details to be confirmed.
